Artist talk with Marcia Harvey Iskasson, 2023
Marcia Harvey Isaksson was born in 1975 in Harare, Zimbabwe (then called Rhodesia).
In 1999 she is moved to Stockholm, Sweden. Marcia is an artist, writer, curator and exhibition designer based in Stockholm.
In her artistic practice she uses textile methods to explore belonging, heritage and place. She often works with a mix of different media such as: sculpture, photography, textile, performance and video works to bring out her stories. She has exhibit both national and international.
Marcia is the founder of Fiberspace, a gallery for textile art, crafts and design, located in Södermalm in Stockholm between the years of 2015-2020. This platform was awarded in 2022 the Dynamo grant by the Swedish Arts Grants Committee as well as the Cathrine von Hausswolff grant.
She is also the founder of Southnord, a platform that aims to promote black and Afro-Nordic artists.
‘In an increasingly polarised world, there is a need to tell nuanced stories from different perspectives. We want to tell our stories in our own way.’
Marcia also works as a freelance curator and combines this with design assignments from various museums in Sweden, where she has designed everything from cultural history to socially orientated exhibitions.
